In what ranks to be the most anticipated beauty pageant in Cebu Normal University, Dan Kyle Alinsug from the College of Nursing and Yricka Mongcopa of CNU Medellin stood out on the Mr. and Ms. CNU 2016 coronation night last September 14, 2016 held at Samuel MacClintock Hall, CNU.

The "Alice in Wonderland" themed pageant started with the production number of candidates where they introduced themselves and the college they represent. The top shelf poise and struts of each contestant made the audience fervid and more excited as the pageant continues. The dazzling candidates then brought the crowd to utopia as they stride in their fantasy costumes inspired by the theme.

On the swimwear competition, the candidates sizzled with every step on stage as they flaunt their admirable bodies. The female candidates bare their lovely features in a red one-piece suit and a black piece of laced cloth wrapped around their hip. The male candidates, clad only with swimming trunks, show off sterling physical attributes.

Right after that, each candidate answered the preliminary question and answer portion. Then in the formal wear competition, the female candidates ramp elegantly in their bewitching white gowns while the male candidates charmed everyone with their black suits and magnetic smiles. The gowns and suits were sponsored by Designer Carlo Conde.

The audience witnessed an unexpected question and answer portion when the top ten finalists were given three minutes each to write in a cardboard their answer to the question, “As a millennial, who is your modern day Alice and what is the name of the Wonderland he or she will be into? Explain your answer.” Many answered that their mothers are their Alice, three answered President Rodrigo Duterte and other three confidently claimed that they are their own Alice.

Confusion was evident when candidate number 6, Lyka Diana Villa of CN was called onstage after confirmation that her score tied with another female candidate in the top five so she was also given a chance to answer a question from one of the judges, making the top five female finalists into six.

In the end, Filipina-beauty Yricka Mongcopa from CNU Medellin bagged the Ms. CNU 2016 crown and won Best in Production Number, Best in Swimwear, Best in Evening Gown and Miss Photogenic. The dashing Dan Kyle Alinsug from College of Nursing took home the Mr. CNU 2016 crown and four minor awards namely Best in Production Number, Best in Swimwear, Best in Formal Wear and Mr. Photogenic.

1st runner-ups are Kevin Anore of CNU Medellin and Lyka Diana Villa of CN. 2nd runner-ups are Christian Kiert Dela Cruz of CTE and Mary Faith Gungob of CAS. Best in Fantasy Costumes are Ian Comedido and Pauline Christy Clarice Becher, both from CTE. Best in Talent Awardees are Clyde Dakay Pinili of CN and Pauline Christy Clarice Becher of CTE. Janica Ando of CAS also won People’s Choice Award.

Mr. and Ms. CNU 2016 is one of the non-athletic events during Intramurals that exhibits the undeniable wit and beauty that radiates from each Normalite from CNU Main Campus, CNU Balamban and CNU Medellin.
